I'm entirely fine with what Treiliving did yesterday. Our defense is better today than it was yesterday morning and we didn't mortgage the future on a rental player. Austin Czarnick could be the depth scoring piece to be added, I imagine we'll see him called up sooner than later now that his contract isn't as much of a liability against the cap and being able to make a move. Him, Dube and Ryan should make a decent third line and then move Lucic to the fourth line withe Bennet and (insert choice here)

Sometimes less is more. I like the additions - they're slated to play together on the third pairing tonight. Gio is back too baby!

A Forbort-Gustaffson pairing is a recipe for disaster, especially against a Boston team, playing at home, coming off their most embarrassing loss in years. I don't see why anyone thinks Forbort is an upgrade on Stone. Maybe he's meaner, but he has all the same deficiencies as Stone does without the benefit, even though it's pretty much meaningless, of Stone's shot.

Gustaffson should get the shot to take Giordano's place on the first PP to try and reduce some of the minutes Giordano has to play.

Just like last year, when he's healthy he'll play. Even if he doesn't deserve it. Teams don't set their lineups according to contract bonuses or trade stipulations because it opens the door to too many potential issues with the NHLPA.

Maybe they try and bury him in the AHL, but it's highly unlikely. He'll get at least a couple weeks of games to prove he's not a complete chump.

Don't be obtuse. Players don't own trade stipulations. And, unlike last year, there is no incentive for him to NOT play.

The NHLPA has exactly ZERO say over lineup decisions barring a financial implication for the player (ie. bonus based on play time for example). Even then, it would be a grievance and would be financial in nature and nothing to do with playing time - ie, the NHLPA cannot force a team to play a player, but they could demand payment of the bonus if they felt the team were placing unreasonable barriers on reaching that target.

That Zach Bogisian is apparently good enough to sign a deal to play for the best team in the league and couldn't buy ice time in Buffalo should tell you everything you need to know about how little say the player or the PA have in lineup choices.

If push came to shove and the Oilers were locked into the playoffs, they would absolutely bench Neal (or, at least keep him off the PP) to protect that pick. That's just basic asset management.

Gus is gonna be interesting to follow.

He’s so, so good in the offensive zone with a very good shot from the point. And he’s a good skater with speed to offer.

His defense is obviously not very good, but it isn’t for lack of ability. He’s got an active stick and his positioning is usually fine. He’s actually prevented a lot of opposing team man-advantages (3 on 2’s, 2 on 1’s) and he’s got the speed to catch up on breakaways.

He just makes such colossally bone-headed mistakes at the most inopportune times that completely turn a game upside down. You could be down 3-1, score twice in a matter of minutes (led by Gus), only to have him come out the next shift and try a cross-ice pass in front of the goalie that gets intercepted and quickly buried in your net. It’s beyond frustrating.

But the talent is clearly there. Last year may not be a norm for him, but I think Keith Yandle is a pretty accurate comparison for the type of player his upside emulates.

In a [very] sheltered role where he quarterbacks your PP, sees limited minutes with a very positionally-sound, defense-first defenseman that can cover for him as he inevitably tries to engage offensively, he’ll be fine.

For a mere 3rd round pick, this was a good investment by the Flames.

He's basically the extreme version of Brodie.

As nice it would of been to bring in a big name, I love the fact that Tre didn’t bend and pull the trigger to all the high asking prices...
And ya, some of our competition has really improved but they also lost some very significant futures and assets...
We bulked up our defence nicely for very little and if the flames can play as good as they really are on paper then we can hold our own with any team out there...
As I mentioned before, it’s time to put on your sht kickers and kick some serious sht!!!
It’s GO TIME!!!
And I believe!!!😉

I like the moves
Wondering what people think about what we paid to get Gustafsson vs what the Oilers paid for Green
I mean Green has always been an offensive D with poor defensive side...but older, slower, further away from his peak production, but they unloaded a contract and only paid a 5th

I have no problems what we paid for Gus. He is younger and if he gets re signed, even as a 5-6, it will be for his prime years.

Yea part of me hopes that as D-men tend to take longer to adjust to the NHL, even moreso for a player coming in from Europe like Gus did
He hit 60 points in his first full year in the NHL

his production this year has dropped, but he's also on a weaker Hawks team....heopfully still has some room to grow, worth a shot at least

Except he really really doesn't. Forbort can actually play. Stone was found to have the worst metrics of any defender this year a week or two ago.

Both pick ups are miles better than stone !!!!! Gus will eat some minutes from gio on PP which is no worries he will be fine there ! And paid little to nothin for them !! Gus will be absolutely free if Neal scores 2 more lol so i say that’s a win he had 60 points last year if he can give us 30 a year its a win all around cant wait to not have to watch stone anymore ever again man he’s just terrible in every way possible

And the ironic thing too is that Gus was an Oilers draft pick in 2012. It would be awesome to see him blossom in Calgary - and the cost being a pick that we received from the Oilers!
